2017-08-07T09:42:21+00:00

The Westminster Legacy Foundation has awarded a grant for $2,000 to support the efforts of ACFB in alleviating hunger and poverty in our area. The Arvada Community Food Bank, which serves families in need in a 100 square mile area of Northern Jefferson County, CO, included a sizable portion of Westminster.

Last fiscal year, the number of Westminster residents who sought assistance from ACFB rose by 32% equaling nearly 6% of all of those ACFB serves.

ACFB thanks the Westminster Legacy Foundation for their support and investment in the needs of members of their community.

Please visit the Foundation’s website to learn more about their great work.

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, the Arvada Community Food Bank volunteers, in partnership with the members of the Arvada and Wheat Ridge National Association of Letter Carriers, collected and sorted nearly 80,000 pounds of food. That amount reflects the second highest total collected in an 8 hour period for the benefit of ACFB. We wish to thank the Letter Carriers Union for their support of our efforts and all the local residents who left their donations by their mailboxes for us. This is truly a community event!

AEDA contributes $1,000 to Bridges to Opportunity

2017-04-13T12:00:45+00:00

The Arvada Economic Development Association (AEDA)
has been a longtime supporter of the Arvada Community
Food Bank. This year, AEDA was looking to invest
in a program directly supporting Arvada families. The
organization has chosen to provide a 2017 gift to ACFB’s
Bridges to Opportunity (B2O) program to be used for rent
deposits for the working poor to attain stability in permanent
housing. Many of the working poor served are technically
homeless.

B2O partners with the Arvada Housing Authority (AHA)
to pre-qualify families for rent assistance through AHA’s
Housing Choice program. However, AHA funds can not be
used directly for deposits, often leaving a final hurdle for
program participants to clear. Money directed by donors,
including organizations like AEDA, can then be used by
B2O to fund deposits and remove that final hurdle.

Marty Jewell (pictured), who recycles a large amount of all the plastic we generate at the Food Bank, secured and donated this Trex bench for her efforts. The “Marty Bench” is a great addition to our foyer seating for clients.
